Historic agreement signed in Bethlehem

(Jerusalem/Cts-Mab) – On September 2nd an important agreement was signed in Bethlehem concerning the restoration of the roof of the Church of the Nativity of Jesus.

The agreement was signed by the Custos of the Holy Land, Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Theophilos III and the representative of the Armenian Patriarch Torkom II Manoogian. In the Basilica of the Nativity, as in all the sanctuaries to which the Status Quo applies, no renovation can be carried out without the agreement of the three “joint landlords”. (more…)

On 1 and 2 September the Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas meet in Washington, together with US President Barak Obama, King Abdullah of Jordan, President Moubarak of Egypt, and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, with the aim of resuming peace negotiations and finding a final two-State solution as envisaged by the UN, USA, Russia and the European Union, the so-called Quartet.
