On 25th November the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received the reply of the Palestinian chief negotiator Sayeb Erekat regarding the Israeli new proposal to halt the expansion of already existing settlements in the West Bank for a period of 10 months, but to exert its right to continue building homes, schools and synagogues that are already in construction, and to apply its right to continue building anywhere in Jerusalem, which Israel regards as its “sovereign capital”. On Saturday 7th November, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Franciscan theologian Blessed John Duns Scotus (1265-1308), celebrated by the liturgy on 8th November, the Faculty of Biblical Theology and Archaeology of the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum of Jerusalem, which is an integral part of the Pontificia Università Antonianum of Rome, officially inaugurated its academic year 2009-2101 at the Auditorium of Saint Saviour’s Franciscan Monastery in Jerusalem. On 4th November the Catholic authorities in the Holy Land, led by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Antonio Franco, have officially denounced the new problems being posed by the Israeli Government in issuing visas for priests and religious to work and live in the Holy Land. (more…)
