The days of celebration of Christmas are a long period of time in the Holy Land.  The Catholic Christmas is celebrated on 25th December and ends with the celebration of the Epiphany on 6th January.  That same day the Orthodox Churches commence their celebrations with Christmas on 7th January and Epiphany on 19th January. Christmas was a splendid and rather warm day in Bethlehem.  The traditional celebrations took place in a festive atmosphere and the usual throngs of pilgrims and tourists continued to arrive at the Nativity Basilica until late in the afternoon. (more…)


Stalemate or checkmate?

On 10th December the important meeting of the Bilateral Permanent Working Group between the Vatican and Israel ended with no agreement and with a gesture of goodwill to continue talking in the future.  This time the end product should have been a treaty regarding fiscal matters and Church property in Israel, after ten years of negotiations.   (more…)
