During his weekly address of the General Audience in the Vatican on Wednesday 27 January, Pope Benedict XVI continued his series of teachings on the Mendicant Religious Orders by speaking about St. Francis of Assisi and the Order of Friars Minor. We are posting the last part (part 5) of the English translation of the voluminous Chronica XXIV Ministrorum Generalium Ordinis fratrum Minorum by Arnald of Sarrant (1369-1374) published in the Latin original in Volume III of Analecta Franciscana. Thus the entire work is now translated in English and is available on this website. Our aim is that of providing a fraternal service to our Franciscan brothers and to all those who are interested in Franciscan studies. (more…)

Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the main synagogue of Rome on Sunday 17 January has been another occasion in which Catholics and Jews have reaffirmed their commitment to mutual reconciliation and understanding in the aftermath of Vatican Council II and the document “Nostra Aetate” on inter-religious dialogue. The Week for Christian Unity, celebrated normally between 18 and 25 January, was this year held in Jerusalem during the week of 23 – 31 January. In Jerusalem the Christian communities postpone the celebration of this important event, out of respect for the Orthodox Churches that celebrate their Christmas and Epiphany festivities until 19 January.
