The Holy Week celebrations in Jerusalem will begin on 28th March, with the celebration of Palm Sunday. The blessing of palms and olive branches takes place early in the morning in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, during Mass celebrated by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fuoad Twal. (more…)

Hurva Synagogue reopens

Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for Oriental Churches, has spoken about the Good Friday collection in aid of Christians in the Holy Land in his annual message to all bishops, priests and Christian faithful. It is a tradition that on Good Friday a collection is held in all churches to help the Catholic Church’s mission in the Holy Land. (more…)

On Wednesday 3 March the Franciscan friars of the Holy Land Custody began their weekly Lenten peregrinationes to various sanctuaries linked with the Passion of Christ by celebrating Mass at the small chapel of “Dominus Flevit”, halfway down the Mount of Olives directly opposite the Old City of Jerusalem. Christians targeted in the Middle East

On Sunday 28 February Pope Benedict XVI prayed for the families of eight Christians of the Chaldean Catholic rite who have been killed in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, as part of a long string of murders and persecutions of Christians by Islamic extremists. Two years ago, the Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Mosul, Paulos Faraj Rahho, was kidnapped and murdered. Most of Iraqi’s 700,000 Christians belong to the Chaldean Catholic Church. (more…)
